My name is Evija Melberga and I am both a Psychosynthesis Counsellor and a Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapist (REBT/CBT).
Qualifications
I first qualified as a therapist in 2013, with a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling and Therapy. This was awarded by the University of East London in conjunction with the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust and is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I subsequently qualified as a CBT/REBT therapist in 2019 with a diploma from the College of Behavioural Therapies, from where I subsequently earned two advanced diplomas in CBT/REBT.
I also hold Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Pedagogy (Teaching) and Speech Therapy for Children with Special Needs. I am a member of both the BACP and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and work in the strictest confidence in accordance with their standards and ethics. I am listed on the Data Protection Register of the Information Commissioner’s Office.
I have also trained in Mindfulness, Anger Management and Transgender Awareness.
Experience
After a number of months doing post-qualification volunteer counselling, including within the NHS, I set up my own practice in 2014. My counselling work is primarily influenced by both REBT/CBT and the principle of psychosynthesis, including the use of mindfulness techniques. I work in a very individual way with each client, tailoring their therapy sessions to their needs, preferences and goals. using a blend of approaches.
On a more personal level, I am a warm, grounded and approachable person who finds it easy to engage with people from all backgrounds. I have experience of living and working in a variety of cultures and am multilingual.
My rural upbringing coupled with the last 25 years of living in large global cities has given me a sense for detecting subtle signals in people showing the effect on them of the challenges of living in today’s complex environments.
I also offer counselling in Latvian and Russian.
In practice, as at the end of 2022, I have worked with around 650 clients utilising over 6000 therapy hours. Please a see comments from a few of my past clients on the Testimonials page.
